The table in this file contains the time it takes for versions of WinJPEG and versions of ColorView to display arbitrarily selected JPEG files. The configuration of the system that was used to obtain these figures is as follows: - 386-40MHz clone, 64k cache - 4 Mb RAM - 768k disk cache - Maxtor LXT200S connected to WD7000FASST SCSI card - Diamond SpeedStar Plus - Windows 3.1 setup: 800x600x256 mode 10 Mb swap disk no other programs running - MSDOS 5.0 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- filename | WinJPEG v0.95 | ColorView v0.97 and | Viewer | Full Version | 386 | 286 dimensions | 1 2 | 3 4 | 5 6 | 7 8 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- palace | 00:33 | 00:39 | 00:38 | 00:43 | 00:54 | 00:38 | 00:59 | 00:48 584x779 | | | | | | | | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- fenn00 | 00:35 | 00:41 | 00:39 | 00:45 | 01:03 | 00:44 | 01:09 | 00:58 547x528 | | | | | | | | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- falcon | 02:15 | 01:34 | 02:25 | 01:52 | 02:33 | 01:51 | 02:56 | 02:14 1011x735 | | | | | | | | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- aquarama | 02:27 | 01:46 | 02:38 | 01:53 | 02:40 | 01:59 | 03:06 | 02:20 690x1148 | | | | | | | | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The format for the time elapsed is minutes:seconds. Column Numbers Options Selected: 1,3,5,7 2-pass quantization(Heckbert), dithering on, and use available memory(Conserve Memory off) 2,4,6,8 2-pass quantization(Heckbert), dithering on, and use temporary file(Conserve Memory) (phrases in parentheses is probably the equivalent option in ColorView) Both versions of WinJPEG are compiled for 8088/8086 machines but at least an 80286 is recommended. To avoid disk cache hits that would affect the timing, I didn't load one image, change the memory option, and load the same image again. I loaded a sequence of different JPEG images, changed the memory option, and loaded the sequence of images again. ColorView is a trademark of Millennium Technologies Corp.
